- Black Surfers Collective
The mission of the group is to raise cultural awareness and promote diversity to the sport of surfing through community activities, outreach and camaraderie.
- Black Surfing Association
Founded in the 1970s, the organization is engaged in exposing and encouraging people of African ancestry to witness, experience, participate and enjoy the ancient oceanic activity of surfing throughout the oceans and seas of the world.
This website represents the efforts of a small community of surfers of color, who sought to change the world’s perception of surfing. The website resources provide a foundation for further investigation into the story of black aquatic tradition in southern California and a few other locales.

- Historical Society of Southern California
Founded in 1883, the Historical Society of Southern California (HSSC) is the oldest historical society in California.
- Los Angeles Conservancy
The organization works through education and advocacy to recognize, preserve, and revitalize the historic architectural and cultural resources of Los Angeles County.
- Los Angeles Historical Society
Since 1976, the Society has worked to disseminate knowledge of the rich and diverse multicultural history of the city of Los Angeles. They are also the official Friends of the Los Angeles City Archives.
- Santa Monica Conservancy
Founded in 2002, the Conservancy celebrates and protects Santa Monica’s unique architectural, cultural, and historically significant treasures.
- Surf Bus Foundation
Surf Bus Foundation and Surf Academy is a collective of women surfers committed to bringing people closer to nature through the act of riding waves.
- West Adams Heritage Association
The organization is celebrating its 30th year of building community and continuing dedication to preservation advocacy. In supporting preservation of the West Adams community’s architectural heritage and beautification activities, the organization seeks to educate Los Angeles’ citizens and others about cultural heritage and revitalization techniques.
